How to make Cheddar Cheese Scones

To prepare the cheddar cheese scones first heat the oven to 220°C (200° fan), gas 7.

Grease a baking tray.

Sift the flour, salt, cream of tartar, bicarbonate of soda and cayenne into a mixing bowl.

Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Stir in the cheese, followed by the egg and enough milk to form a very soft dough.

Turn out onto a floured surface and roll out to 2 cm thick. Cut out rounds with a 3.5 cm cutter.

Put on the baking tray and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden.

Serve the Cheddar cheese scones hot, warm or cold.
